The procedure for replacement of lost or damaged voters cards is

You can now replace your lost or damaged voters cards following a certain procedure as stated by the INEC. If you lost your voters card of your voters card is damaged there is nothing to fidget about. It will just cost you some time that you will use to get a replacement for your lost or damaged voters card.

NB: A valid voters card according to INEC is a must to ensure a free and fair election in the upcoming election. So its advisable that you start the procedure stated below for you to replace a lost or damaged voters card.


WHAT can a person do if his/her voter’s card is lost or damaged?

According to the procedure listed on INEC page you have to follow this striclty in order for you to find a replacement for your lost voters card.

  • The voter shall apply in person to the Electoral Officer or any other officer duly authorized for that purpose by the Resident Electoral Commissioner.
  • The application shall be at least 30 days before an election
  • The applicant shall state the circumstances of the loss or damage
  • The, he shall be issued with another copy of his original voters card.
  • The word “DUPLICATE” will be marked or printed on it clearly.
  • The date of issue will also be printed on the new  voters card.

So if you are in this category of people that misplaced their voters card or lost their voters card you can follow the above procedure. Apply in person to the electoral Officer who you are sure is duly authorized for that purpose.

Things to note: You can only have one voters card which means on the request to replace your damaged voters card your data will be retrieved and used for you on the new card.
