You can change theme name in WordPress without affecting your site in the following ways stated below:
If you want to change theme name in WordPress then this post is for you.
For the start you first have to deactivate the theme before going on with whatever editing explained below. This will make you avoid the risk of harming your site on the process if something goes wrong.
I always like to use FTP to do any editing that has to do with my root directory so that I can know exactly where a line of code is located if it goes wrong and then find a way to fix it immediately.
Thus you can change theme name in WordPress.
Step 1: Firstly go to wp-content/themes/ folder. And then rename your theme folder to whatever you want. Remember its the folder that bears the name of the current theme that you will like to change that you will rename.
To get to where this folder is located you will need to use FTP or file. I use Filezilla much and you can check it out. It is a free app.
Step 2: Open your theme folder. When you open your theme folder navigate to your .css file and open style.css file. In top part of style.css you will see theme name. The name you will see there is the current name. Rename it to whatever name you like and save changes.
Step 3: After you have saved it then Go to Wp-admin/appearance/themes and activate your theme under new name.
If you are using child/parent theme and you also rename parent theme folder&name, so after Step 3 you should additionally change parent theme path in child theme’s style.css.
note : renaming your theme will stop its automatic updates, you should do it manually in the future.
